What is Photocatalytic Air Purification and what can it do for me?
A Photocatalytic air purifier is a device that uses Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO) to convert fine particles and toxic gases into safer compounds. The Photocatalytic Oxidation process combines UVC light with a substance (catalyst) titanium dioxide (TiO2) which results in a reaction that changes VOC contaminants into water and carbon dioxide.
High-intensity ultraviolet light of the germicidal (254 nm) wavelength is the first part of the process that acts on the air coming into the machine and starts to degrade toxic organic compounds. The filters arranged inside the machine are at right angles to the air flow and are positioned between pairs of UV light tubes along the body of the machine. The filters are coated with a Photocatalyst which reacts to the UV light and produces Hydroxyl radicals which breakdown organic compounds thus reducing fungal, bacterial and viral microorganisms.
Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO) is a very powerful air purification technology and has the ability to destroy particles as small as 0.001 microns (nanometre) whereas HEPA filters only filter particles as small as 0.3 microns.
PCO is an approved method for reducing viruses, fungal and bacterial spores in fresh produce and fruit storage environments as well as clean room, medical and pharmaceutical working environments. PCO technology is also capable of removing pesticides from fresh produce and fruit stores.

The configuration of our machine with the UV tube and filter arrangement is enhanced more than other machines. The type of Photocatalsyt and its dopant partner make an enhanced catalyst which increases the rate of attack on organic compounds. The light chamber, where the PCO process occurs, is superior as we have increased the reflective value in the chamber increasing the reaction with the Photocatalyst and the light from the UV tubes is more effectively used to react with the passing air.
